1 “Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth?
Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?
2 As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow,
As a hireling who looks for his wages,
3 So am I made to possess months of misery,
Wearisome nights are appointed to me.
4 When I lie down, I say,
‘When shall I arise, and the night be gone?’
I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.
6 My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle,
And are spent without hope.
7 Oh remember that my life is a breath.
My eye shall no more see good.

Bedno življenje
#7
1 Ali nima tlake človek na zemlji
in njegovi dnevi, niso li dninarjevi dnevi?
2 Kakor suženj hrepeni po senci
in kakor dninar pričakuje svoje plače,
3 tako so mi postali v dediščino mesci polni gorja
in truda polne noči so mi bile dodeljene.
4 Če ležem, mislim: »Kdaj bom vstal?«
Ko se vleče noč, se naveličam preobračanja do svita.
6 Moji dnevi so hitrejši ko tkalska snovalnica
in minevajo brez upanja.

For it is pleasant and fitting to praise him.

He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

And binds up their wounds.

He calls them all by their names.

1 Hvalite Gospoda, ker je dober,
prepevajte našemu Bogu, ker je mil!
Spodobi se, da ga hvalimo.
2 Gospod zida Jeruzalem,
zbira Izraelove razkropljence,
3 ozdravlja potrta srca,
in obvezuje njih rane.
4 Določa zvezdam število,
kliče sleherno po imenu;
5 velik je naš Gospod in silen v moči,
njegova modrost je neizmerna.
6 Ponižne dviga Gospod,

16 For if I preach the Gospel, I have nothing to boast about; for necessity is laid on me; but woe is to me, if I don’t preach the Gospel.
17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
18 What then is my reward? That, when I preach the Gospel, I may present the Gospel of Christ without charge, so as not to abuse my authority in the Gospel.
19 For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more.
22 To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.
23 Now I do this for the Gospel’s sake, that I may be a joint partaker of it.

4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer on that altar.
5 In Gibeon Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I shall give you.
6 Solomon said, You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, according as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child; I don’t know how to go out or come in.
8 Your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this your great people?
10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11 God said to him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice;
12 behold, I have done according to your word: behold, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like you.
13 I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you, all your days.

in ga slavil vse dni s psalmi.
9 Harfe je postavil pred oltar
in ob njih spremljavi so pesmi prijetno zvenele.

14 King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, “John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
15 But others said, “It is Elijah.” Others said, “It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
16 But Herod, when he heard this, said, “This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead.”
17 For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.
18 For John said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19 Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she couldn’t,
20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.
21 Then a convenient day came, that Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.
22 When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”
23 He swore to her, “Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”
24 She went out, and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?”
She said, “The head of John the Baptizer.”
25 She came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.”
26 The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths, and of his dinner guests, he didn’t wish to refuse her.
27 Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring John’s head, and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.
29 When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

29 Ko so to zvedeli njegovi učenci, so prišli, vzeli truplo in ga položili v grob.

22 When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord
23 ,
24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”
25 Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. “Christ” and “Messiah” both mean “Anointed One”
27 He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,
28 then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 “Now you are releasing your servant, Master,
According to your word, in peace;
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 Which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
32 A light for revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of your people Israel.”
33 Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,
34 and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
35 Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
36 There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37 and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.
38 Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
40 The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

29 »Zdaj odpuščaš, Gospod, po svoji besedi
svojega služabnika v miru;
30 zakaj moje oči so videle tvoje zveličanje,
31 ki si ga pripravil pred obličjem vseh narodov:
32 luč v razsvetljenje poganov
in slavo Izraela, tvojega ljudstva.«
Simeonovo in Anino prerokovanje
34 In
in rekel Mariji, njegovi materi:

2 The king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, Go now back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number you the people, that I may know the sum of the people.
9 Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
10 David’s heart struck him after that he had numbered the people. David said to Yahweh, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
11 When David rose up in the morning, the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
12 Go and speak to David, Thus says Yahweh, I offer you three things: choose you one of them, that I may do it to you.
13 So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? now advise you, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.
14 David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.
15 So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
16 When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh repented him of the evil, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay your hand. The angel of Yahweh was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.

Davidov greh in božja kazen
Tvoja roka bodi, prosim, zoper mene in zoper hišo mojega očeta!«

By David. A contemplative psalm.
1 Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man to whom Yahweh doesn’t impute iniquity,
In whose spirit there is no deceit.
5 I acknowledged my sin to you.
I didn’t hide my iniquity.
I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh,
And you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Selah.
6 For this, let everyone who is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found.
Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him.
7 You are my hiding place.
You will preserve me from trouble.
You will surround me with songs of deliverance.
Selah.

PSALM 32 (31)
Kdor grehe prizna, so mu odpuščeni
#32
in v čigar duhu ni prevare.
5 Tedaj pa sem ti svoj greh priznal
in svoje krivde nisem prikrival.
Rekel sem: »Priznam svojo krivico Gospodu«,
in ti si odpustil krivdo mojega greha.
6 Zato bo molil k tebi vsak pobožni
ob času stiske.
Če pridero velike vode,
njega ne bodo dosegle.
7 Ti si mi zavetje, obvaroval me boš stiske,
z veseljem moje rešitve me boš obdal.

1 He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
2 When the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?” and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?
3 Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him.
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”
5 He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them.
6 He marveled because of their unbelief.
He went around the villages teaching.
