1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men The word for “wise men” can also mean teachers, priests, physicians, astrologers, seers, interpreters of dreams, or sorcerers. from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
2 “Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”
3 When Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet,
6 ‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah,
Are in no way least among the princes of Judah:
For out of you shall come forth a governor,
Who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’”
7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.
8 He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”
9 They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11 They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 Being warned in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.

ker je storil čudovita dela;
njegova desnica mu je pomagala,
njegov sveti laket.
3 Spomnil se je svoje dobrote in zvestobe
za Izraelovo hišo.
Vsi konci zemlje so videli
odrešenje našega Boga.
4 Vzklikajte GOSPODU, vsa zemlja,
vedri bodite, vriskajte in prepevajte!
5 Igrajte GOSPODU na citre,
na citre z glasom pesmi,
6 s trobentami in z glasom roga
vzklikajte pred kraljem, GOSPODOM!

19 This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 He confessed, and didn’t deny, but he confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
22 They said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24 The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
25 They asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.
27 He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”
28 These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

19 To pa je Janezovo pričevanje: Ko so Judje poslali k njemu iz Jeruzalema duhovnike in levite, da so ga vprašali: »Kdo si ti?«, 20 je priznal in ni tajil. Priznal je: »Jaz nisem Mesija.« 21 »Kaj torej? Si mar Elija?« so ga vprašali. »Ne, tudi to nisem,« jim je rekel. »Ali si prerok?« »Ne,« je odgovoril. 22 Rekli so torej: »Kdo si, da bomo mogli odgovoriti tistim, ki so nas poslali. Kaj praviš sam o sebi?« 23 Dejal je:
»Jaz sem glas vpijočega v puščavi:
zravnajte Gospodovo pot,
kakor je rekel prerok Izaija.« 24 Odposlanci so bili iz vrst farizejev. 25 Vprašali so ga in mu rekli: »Kaj torej krščuješ, če nisi ne Mesija ne Elija ne prerok?« 26 Janez jim je odgovoril: »Jaz krščujem v vodi, med vami pa stoji on, ki ga ne poznate, 27 tisti, ki pride za menoj, in jaz nisem vreden, da bi mu odvezal jermen na sandali.« 28 To se je zgodilo v Betaniji, onkraj Jordana, kjer je Janez krščeval.

| 22 Kdo je lažnivec, če ne tisti, ki zanika, da je Jezus Mesija? Antikrist je tisti, ki zanika Očeta in Sina. 23 Kdor zanika Sina, tudi Očeta nima; kdor pa prizna Sina, ima tudi Očeta. 24 V vas pa naj ostaja to, kar ste slišali od začetka. Če bo v vas ostalo to, kar ste slišali od začetka, boste tudi vi ostali v Sinu in Očetu. 25 In obljuba, ki nam jo je dal sam, je večno življenje.
26 To vam pišem glede tistih, ki vas skušajo zapeljati. 27 Kar pa zadeva vas: maziljenje, ki ste ga dobili od njega, ostaja v vas in zato ni treba, da vas kdo uči. Kakor vas njegovo maziljenje uči o vsem in je resnično in ni laž, tako ostajajte v njem, kakor vas je poučilo.
Božji otroci
28 Zato, otroci, ostajajte v njem, da bomo lahko polni zaupnosti, ko se razodene, in da ne bomo pred njim osramočeni, kadar pride.

A Psalm.
1 Sing to Yahweh a new song,
For he has done marvelous things!
His right hand, and his holy arm, have worked salvation for him.
2 Yahweh has made known his salvation.
He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
3 He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all the earth!
Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!

Odrešenje prihaja
1 Pojte GOSPODU novo pesem,
ker je storil čudovita dela;
njegova desnica mu je pomagala,
njegov sveti laket.
2 GOSPOD je dal spoznati svoje odrešenje,
očem narodov je razodel svojo pravičnost.
3 Spomnil se je svoje dobrote in zvestobe
za Izraelovo hišo.
Vsi konci zemlje so videli
odrešenje našega Boga.
