Tudi, če se ločimo od človeka, ga ne smemo sovražiti. Od njega se nismo ločili iz sovraštva do njega, ampak iz ljubezni do njega in sebe ter tudi iz ljubezni do Boga. Kajti bližnji je zaradi moje slabostnosti in svoje grešnosti lahko tudi pohujšanje zame, pohujšanje, ki se mu moram izogniti.

5 Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation! 6 I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me will I give him a charge to take the spoil and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7 However he doesn’t mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations. 13 For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have understanding: and I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers. 14 My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned, have I gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing, or that opened their mouth, or chirped.” 15 Should an axe brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood. 16 Therefore the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.

GOSPOD grozi Asircem
5 Gorje Asircu! Šiba moje jeze,
palica mojega srda je v njegovi roki.
6 Pošljem ga nad skrunilni narod,
nad ljudstvo, ki se nanj srdim, in mu ukažem,
naj ga pleni in opleni, naj ga ropa in izropa,
naj ga potepta kakor blato na cesti.
7 On pa si tega ne predstavlja tako,
njegovo srce ne misli tako,
temveč namerava uničiti
in iztrebiti nemalo narodov.

13 Rekel je namreč:

»S svojo močno roko sem delal
in s svojo modrostjo, ker sem razumen.
Odstranil sem meje med ljudstvi,
oropal sem njihove zakladnice
in kot junak odstavil prestolujoče.
14 Moja roka je pograbila
bogastva ljudstev kakor gnezdo,
kakor kdo pobere zapuščena jajca,
tako sem jaz pobral vso zemljo.
Ni ga bilo, ki bi bil zganil s perutjo,
odprl kljun ali začivkal.«


15 Mar se baha sekira pred njim, ki z njo seka?
Mar se postavlja žaga pred njim, ki jo vleče?
Kakor da bi šiba vihtela njega, ki jo vzdiguje,
kakor da bi palica vzdigovala njega, ki ni les.
16 Zato bo Gospod, BOG nad vojskami,
poslal med njegove debeluhe sušico
in pod njegovo slavo bo zagorel požar,
kakor zagori ogenj.

He who teaches man knows. 14 For Yahweh won’t reject his people, Neither will he forsake his inheritance. 15 For judgment will return to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it.

7 Govorijo: »GOSPOD ne vidi,
Jakobov Bog ne opazi.«


8 Razumite, neumneži med ljudstvom!
Vi norci, kdaj boste razumni?
9 Ta, ki je zasadil uho, da bi ne slišal?
Ta, ki je ustvaril oko, da bi ne videl?
10 Tisti, ki vzgaja narode, da ne kaznuje,
tisti, ki uči človeka spoznanja?

14 Zares, GOSPOD ne bo zavrgel svojega ljudstva,
svoje dediščine ne bo zapustil.
15 Zakaj k pravičnosti se bo vrnila pravica
in zanjo bodo vsi iskreni v srcu.
