“Zahvala po maši je najdragocenejši trenutek v mojem življenju. Jezus je neskončno bogat, pa ne more dati svojemu duhovniku več, kot mu da vsak dan pri sveti maši. Pravičnost zahteva, da se mu duhovnik zahvali. Mnogi so opustili zahvalo zaradi pomanjkanja vere in ljubezni. Jezus je ozdravljal bolnike samo z dotikom svoje obleke. Kaj bo šele storil v nas s svojo evharistično navzočnostjo? Mi smo poklicni delivci Božjih darov. Izkoristimo vse možnosti, da izprosimo milosti grešnikom, sorodnikom in rajnim.”

2 The king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, Go now back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number you the people, that I may know the sum of the people.
9 Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
10 David’s heart struck him after that he had numbered the people. David said to Yahweh, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
11 When David rose up in the morning, the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
12 Go and speak to David, Thus says Yahweh, I offer you three things: choose you one of them, that I may do it to you.
13 So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? now advise you, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.
14 David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.
15 So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
16 When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh repented him of the evil, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay your hand. The angel of Yahweh was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.

| 9 Joáb je izročil kralju število preštetega ljudstva: v Izraelu je bilo osemsto tisoč z mečem oboroženih vojščakov, v Judu pa petsto tisoč mož.
Bog kaznuje Davidov greh
10 Potem ko je preštel ljudstvo, je Davidu bílo srce. David je tedaj rekel GOSPODU: »Zelo sem grešil s tem, kar sem storil. A zdaj, GOSPOD, pusti, naj gre krivda tvojega služabnika mimo, saj sem ravnal zelo nespametno.« 11 Ko je David zjutraj vstal, se je GOSPODOVA beseda zgodila preroku Gadu, Davidovemu vidcu, rekoč: 12 »Pojdi in povej Davidu: ›Tako govori GOSPOD: Tri stvari ti predlagam; izberi eno izmed njih, da ti jo storim.‹« 13 Gad je prišel k Davidu in mu to naznanil. Rekel mu je: »Ali naj ti pride sedem let lakote v deželo? Ali naj tri mesece bežiš pred svojim nasprotnikom, ki te bo preganjal? Ali naj bo tri dni kuga v tvoji deželi? Premisli zdaj in glej, kaj naj odgovorim njemu, ki me je poslal.« 14 David je rekel Gadu: »Zelo sem v stiski; padimo raje v GOSPODOVO roko, ker je njegovo usmiljenje veliko; v človekovo roko pa ne bi rad padel!«
15 Tako je GOSPOD poslal kugo nad Izraela od jutra do določenega časa. In umrlo jih je izmed ljudstva od Dana do Beeršébe sedemdeset tisoč mož. 16 Ko je angel iztegnil roko nad Jeruzalem, da bi ga pokončal, je bilo GOSPODU žal zaradi hudega, zato je rekel angelu, ki je pokončaval ljudstvo: »Dosti je, umakni zdaj svojo roko!« GOSPODOV angel je bil tedaj pri mlatišču Jebusejca Arávna. 17 Ko je David videl angela, ki je pobijal ljudstvo, je rekel GOSPODU: »Glej, jaz sem se pregrešil, jaz sem si nakopal krivdo; ti pa, ovce, kaj so storili? Naj bo, prosim, tvoja roka proti meni in proti hiši mojega očeta!«

Veselje zaradi odpuščanja
1 Davidov psalm. Pouk.
Blagor tistemu, ki mu je pregreha odpuščena,
ki mu je greh pokrit.
2 Blagor človeku, ki mu GOSPOD ne prišteva krivde
in v njegovem duhu ni prevare.

5 Svoj greh sem ti dal spoznati,
svoje krivde nisem prikrival;
dejal sem: »Priznal bom svoje pregrehe GOSPODU.«
In ti si odpustil krivdo mojega greha.
Sela.
6 Zaradi tega naj k tebi moli vsak, ki je zvest,
v ustreznem času.
Kadar naplavijo velike vode,
njega ne bodo dosegle.
7 Ti si moje skrivališče,
čuvaš me pred stisko,
s spevi osvoboditve me obdajaš.

1 “Be careful that you don’t do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
2 Therefore when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most assuredly I tell you, they have received their reward.
3 But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does,
4 so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
5 “When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most assuredly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
6 But you, when you pray, enter into your inner chamber, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

O miloščini
1 »Glejte, da svoje pravičnosti ne boste izkazovali pred ljudmi, da bi vas videli, sicer ne boste imeli plačila pri svojem Očetu, ki je v nebesih.
2 Kadar torej daješ miloščino, ne trobi pred seboj, kakor delajo hinavci po shodnicah in ulicah, da bi jih ljudje hvalili. Resnično, povem vam: Dobili so svoje plačilo. 3 Kadar pa ti daješ miloščino, naj ne ve tvoja levica, kaj dela tvoja desnica. 4 Tako bo tvoja miloščina na skrivnem, in tvoj Oče, ki vidi na skrivnem, ti bo povrnil.«
O molitvi
5 »In kadar molite, ne bodite kakor hinavci. Ti namreč radi molijo stoje po shodnicah in vogalih glavnih ulic, da se pokažejo ljudem. Resnično, povem vam: Dobili so svoje plačilo. 6 Kadar pa ti moliš, pojdi v svojo sobo, zapri vrata in môli k svojemu Očetu, ki je na skrivnem. In tvoj Oče, ki vidi na skrivnem, ti bo povrnil.
