1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
2 Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same,
4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are ministers of God’s service, attending continually on this very thing.
7 Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not give false testimony,” “You shall not covet,” TR adds “You shall not give false testimony,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

V zemeljskem raju sta prva dva človeka živela v prijateljstvu z Bogom. Njuna nepokorščina Bogu 
je to prijateljstvo porušila. Sveto pismo opisuje Abrahama, Mojzesa in druge preroke kot Božje prijatelje.
Božje prijateljstvo se je najbolj razodelo v Jezusu Kristusu. On hoče biti prijatelj vsakega in vseh. Pogoj pa je
izpolnjevanje Njegove volje. On je rekel apostolom:

Ustvarjene reči vodijo k Stvarniku
1 Zares so prazni vsi, ki so po svoji naravi ljudje, a ne poznajo Boga
in iz vidnih dobrin ne morejo spoznati njega, ki je;
ne prepoznajo mojstra, čeprav opazujejo njegova dela,
2 ampak imajo za bogove ali ogenj ali vetrič ali hitri zrak
ali kroženje zvezd ali deročo vodo
ali nebesni svetilki, ki uravnavata svet.
3 Če jih že tako prevzame njihova lepota, da jih imajo za bogove,
naj spoznajo, koliko lepši je njihov Gospodar;
ustvaril jih je sam začetnik lepote.
4 Če jih že prevzameta njihova moč in delovanje,
naj iz tega doumejo,
koliko močnejši je njihov Stvarnik,
5 zakaj iz velikosti in lepote ustvarjenih reči
moremo s primerjanjem motriti njihovega Stvarnika.
6 Vendar ti zaslužijo manjšo grajo.
Ti najbrž zaidejo,
ko Boga iščejo in hočejo najti.
7 Zatopljeni so namreč v njegova dela in jih raziskujejo,
pa podležejo videzu, ker je pač lepo, kar vidijo.
8 Vendar tudi njim ni mogoče popolnoma odpustiti.
9 Če so namreč zmogli vedeti toliko,
da lahko ugibajo o večnosti,
kako da še hitreje ne odkrijejo Gospodarja vsega tega?

26 As it happened in the days of Noah, even so will it be also in the days of the Son of Man.
27 They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise, even as it happened in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
29 but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky, and destroyed them all.
30 It will be the same way in the day that the Son of Man is revealed.
31 In that day, he who will be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away. Let him who is in the field likewise not turn back.
32 Remember Lot’s wife!
33 Whoever seeks to save his life loses it, but whoever loses his life preserves it.
34 I tell you, in that night there will be two people in one bed. The one will be taken, and the other will be left.
35 There will be two grinding grain together. One will be taken, and the other will be left.”
Some Greek manuscripts add: “Two will be in the field, the one taken, and the other left.”36
37 They answering, asked him, “Where, Lord?”
He said to them, “Where the body is, there will the vultures also be gathered together.”

26 Kakor je bilo v Noetovih dneh, takó bo tudi v dneh Sina človekovega: 27 jedli so, pili, se ženili in se možile do dne, ko je šel Noe v ladjo in je prišel potop ter vse pokončal. 28 Podobno bo, kakor je bilo v Lotovih dneh: jedli so, pili, kupovali, prodajali, sadili in zidali, 29 toda na dan, ko je šel Lot iz Sódome, sta padala z neba ogenj in žveplo in vse pokončala. 30 Takó bo tudi na dan, ko se bo razodel Sin človekov. 31 Kdor bo tisti dan na strehi, svoje stvari pa bo imel v hiši, naj ne hodi dol, da bi jih vzel, in kdor bo na polju, naj se ne obrača nazaj. 32 Spomnite se Lotove žene! 33 Kdor bo skušal rešiti svoje življenje, ga bo izgubil; kdor pa ga bo izgubil, ga bo rešil. 
34 Povem vam: Tisto noč bosta dva na eni postelji; eden bo sprejet, drugi puščen. 35 Dve bosta skupaj mleli: ena bo sprejeta, druga puščena.« 37 Odvrnili so mu: »Kje bo to, Gospod?« Rekel jim je: »Kjer je truplo, tam se bodo zbrali jastrebi.«
