1 Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?
2 You lust, and don’t have. You kill, covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.
3 You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.
4 You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?
6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
7 Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

12 Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?

14 Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.
15 For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”
16 But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
17 To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.

Vera je nekaj tako osebnega, da se je treba zanjo osebno odločiti, v središču svoje osebnosti. Prej ali slej je človek postavljen pred izbiro: za Boga ali proti Njemu, za Kristusa ali proti Njemu. Vera spada na področje temeljnih odločitev, ki jih mora napraviti vsak človek.
Gre najprej za temeljno izbiro, izvolitev Kristusa in po njem troedinega Boga. Ta izvolitev povzroči, da postane Kristus za vse življenje privlačno človekovo središče
. Ljubezen do Kristusa je odslej tako močna, da človeka prešine do korenin njegovega bitja. Le tako je mogoče biti v polnosti kristjan.

8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not give false testimony,” “You shall not covet,” TR adds “You shall not give false testimony,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

8 Ne bodite nikomur dolžniki, razen če gre za medsebojno ljubezen; kdor namreč ljubi drugega, je izpolnil postavo. 9 Kajti zapovedi Ne prešuštvuj! Ne ubijaj! Ne kradi! Ne požêli! pa tudi vse druge zapovedi so obsežene v besedi: Ljubi svojega bližnjega kakor samega sebe. 10 Ljubezen bližnjemu ne prizadeva hudega; ljubezen je torej izpolnitev postave.

milostljiv, usmiljen in pravičen.

25 Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,
26 “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.
27 Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.
28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
29 Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,
30 saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.
33 So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.
