17 As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” ¹⁸ Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one— God. ¹⁹ You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not give false testimony,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’” ²⁰ He said to him, “Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth.” ²¹ Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross.” ²² But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions. ²³ Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!” ²⁴ The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, “Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God! ²⁵ It is easier for a camel to go through a or, the needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.” ²⁶ They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, “Then who can be saved?” ²⁷ Jesus, looking at them, said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God.” ²⁸ Peter began to tell him, “Behold, we have left all, and have followed you.” ²⁹ Jesus said, “Most assuredly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the Gospel’s sake, ³⁰ but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.

17 Ko se je odpravljal na pot, je nekdo pritekel, padel pred njim na kolena in ga vprašal: »Dobri učitelj, kaj naj storim, da bom deležen večnega življenja?« 18 Jezus mu je odvrnil: »Kaj mi praviš, da sem dober?! Nihče ni dober razen enega, Boga! 19 Zapovedi poznaš: Ne ubijaj! Ne prešuštvuj! Ne kradi! Ne pričaj po krivem! Ne goljufaj! Spoštuj očeta in mater!« 20 Rekel mu je: »Učitelj, vse to sem izpolnjeval že od svoje mladosti.« 21 Jezus se je ozrl vanj, ga vzljubil in mu dejal: »Eno ti manjka: pojdi, prodaj, kar imaš, in daj ubogim, in imel boš zaklad v nebesih; nato pridi in hôdi za menoj!« 22 Ta beseda ga je potrla in je žalosten odšel; imel je namreč veliko premoženje.

10 ¹ For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. ² Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? ³ But in those sacrifices there is yearly reminder of sins. ⁴ For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire, But a body did you prepare for me; ⁶ In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure. ⁷ Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come To do your will, God.’” ⁸ Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” , ⁹ then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, ¹⁰ by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. ¹¹ Every priest indeed stands day by day ministering and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, ¹² but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; ¹³ from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet. ¹⁴ For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. ¹⁵ The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, ¹⁶ “This is the covenant that I will make with them: ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’” then he says, ¹⁷ “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” ¹⁸ Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Pred  Bogom smo vsi grešniki. Le za Jezusa in Marijo vemo, da sta bila brez greha. Za

odpuščanje grehov je treba moliti, se grehov kesati in se od njih odvrniti. V očenašu prosimo: »Odpusti nam naše dolge, kako tudi mi odpuščamo svojim dolžnikom.«

V zdravamariji se obračamo na sveto Marijo s prošnjo: »Prosi za nas, grešnike, zdaj in ob naši smrtni uri.«

Kar je voda  za ogenj, to je molitev za grehe. Sv. Avguštin pravi: »Če mora moliti že tisti, ki je brez večjih grehov in živi v milosti,  koliko bolj je šele potrebna molitev tistemu, ki živi v grehih in je brez Božje milosti.

Fant, ki je zabredel globoko v nečisto življenje, se je hotel greha rešiti, a ni imel moči. Duhovnik mu je svetoval, naj vsako jutro in vsak večer zmoli molitev O gospa moja in v vsaki skušnjavi naj še posebej pokliče Božjo Mater za pomoč. Fant je pozneje povedal, kako je z Marijino pomočjo zaživel novo življenje.

Veliki grešniki pogosto za svoje spreobrnjenje ne molijo, zato je to naloga drugih kristjanov. Že Abraham je prosil za grešno Sodomo, Mojzes za godrnjave Izraelce. Kristus je molil za omahljive apostole in druge učence.

Bl. Janez Neumann je sredi prejšnjega stoletja dejal:

»Svet se bo spreobrnil bolj z molitvijo kakor z vsem drugim prizadevanjem.«

Škof Frideri Baraga je zapisal: »Velikokrat se kakšen grešnik spreobrne le zaradi gorečih molilcev, ki jih ta ali ona bogaboječa, pred svetom skrita duša, pošilja iz svoje samote k Bogu.
