27 Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” ²⁸ They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets.” ²⁹ He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.” ³⁰ He charged them that they should tell no one about him. ³¹ He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. ³² He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. ³³ But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.” ³⁴ He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the Gospel’s will save it.

The dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child. ⁵ She gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron. Her child was caught up to God, and to his throne. ⁶ The woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that there they may nourish her one thousand two hundred sixty days. ⁷ There was war in the sky. They didn’t love their life, even to death. ¹² Therefore rejoice, heavens, and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has gone down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time.” ¹³ When the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. ¹⁴ Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. ¹⁶ The earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon spewed out of his mouth. ¹⁷ The dragon grew angry with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep God’s commandments and hold Jesus’ testimony.

Nekoč je kralj naročil modrecem, naj zapišejo vse, kar je na svetu pomebnega. Po štiridesetih letih so modreci končali delo in kralju predložili tisoč knjig. Kralj, ki je medtem dopolnil že šestdeseto leto, jim je rekel: “Tisoč knjig ne morem prebrati. Skrajšajte jih in mi prinesite najbistevenejše izsledke.”

Po desetih letih so modreci izpolnili kraljevo naročilo in vsebino zgodovine človeštva zapisali v sto knjigah. Kralj jim je rekel: “Tudi to je preveč. Star sem že sedemdeset let in nimam dovolj časa, da bi vse to prebral. Napišite samo bistvo!”

Učenjaki so ponovno začeli z delom in bistveno zbrali v eni sami knjigi. Z njo so stopili pred kralja, ki pa je ležal na smrtni postelji. Bilo je jasno, da ne bo mogel prebrati knjige, zato je prosil učenjake, naj mu povedo bistvo v enem samem stavku. Tako je predsednik komisije učenjakov skrčil bistvo zgodovine človeštva v en sam stavek: ” Živeli so, trpeli in umrli; kar je vredno in preživi, je ljubezen.”

Phil Bosmans je zapisal: “Če v puščavi življenja najdeš ljubezen, pristno ljubezen, tedaj pojdi za njo in prišel boš k Viru vsake ljubezni, k Bogu, veliki Oazi za čas in za večnost. Ljubezen je živa voda, praenergija, ki more vse človeške puščave napraviti rodovitne.”

Mati Terezija nas spodbuja: “Dajte Jezusu ne le svoje roke, da služijo, ampak tudi svoje srce, da ljubi.”

Ameriška pevka WHitney Huston je dejala: “Biti kristjan pomeni, da ne misliš samo nase. Pomeni ljubiti, četudi v drugih ne vidiš samo dobro. Vsak dan si prizadevati za to čutim kot moralno dolžnost. To je zelo pomemben cilj, čeprav je le težko dosegljiv.”

Jean Vanier piše v knjigi Skupnost kraj odpuščanja in praznovanja: “Nehajte gledati nase, raje se ozrite na svoje brate in sestre v potrebi. Bodite blizu tistim, ki vam jih Bog daje v skupnosti danes, delujte tam, kjer ste. Vprašajte se, kako bi lahko bolj ljubili svoje brate in sestre. Potem boste našli mir. Našli boste počitek in tisto znamenito ravnotežje med zunanjim in notranjim, med molitvijo in delom, med časom zase in časom za druge. Vse se reši s pomočjo ljubezni.”

Dr.Anton Trstenjak je zapisal: “Samo nesebičnost napravi človeka resnično srečnega…Človek samega sebe osreči samo, če se obrača od sebe, od svojih življenjskih območij, proč od lastnega “jaza”, grehov in napak, samoljubja in ranjenega ponosa.

Ko je neki učitelj postave vprašal Jezusa, katera je največja zapoved v postavi, je Jezus odgovoril: “Ljubi Gospoda, svojega Boga, z vsem srcem, z vso dušo in z vsem mišljenjem. To je največja in prva zapoved. Druga pa je njej podobna: Ljubi svojega bližnjega kakor samega sebe. Na teh dveh zapovedih stoji vsa postava in preroki.

Smisel človekovega življenja je v ljubezni do Boga in do bližnjega. Ti dve zapovedi se zlivata v eno. Boga ljubimo zaradi njega samega, bližnjega pa zaradi Boga. Vsi ljudje in ves svet je Božji.  Kar je Božje, je vredno ljubezni. Ko ljubimo bližnjega in mu služimo zaradi Boga, s tem ljubimo tudi Boga in mu služimo. Življenje v nesebični ljubezni do Boga in vsega njegovega stvarstva, predvsem človeka, pa nas osrečuje. Kjer je nesebična ljubezen, tam je Bog; kjer je Bog, tam je sreča.
