1 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.
2 For by this, the elders obtained testimony.
3 By faith, we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.
4 By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.
5 By faith, Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’t see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.
6 Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
7 By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
8 By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.

12 Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen TR adds “and being convinced of” them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking after a country of their own.
15 If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
17 By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son;
18 even he to whom it was said, “In Isaac will your seed be called;”
19 accounting that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.
20 By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even concerning things to come.
21 By faith, Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.
22 By faith, Joseph, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave instructions concerning his bones.
23 By faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
24 By faith, Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,
25 choosing rather to share ill treatment with God’s people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;

32 What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets;
33 who, through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and turned to flight armies of aliens.
35 Women received their dead by resurrection. Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
36 Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.
37 They were stoned. They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated
38 , wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.
39 These all, having had testimony given to them through their faith, didn’t receive the promise,
40 God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

Gospa Majda je popolnoma prenehala hoditi v cerkev.
Celo prisegla je, da ne bo več prestopila cerkvenega praga. Pravi, da v Boga več ne veruje. “Dokaz” , da ni Boga, je zanjo dejstvo, da ji je umrla njena edina hči. Kdor jo hoče potolažiti, dobi vprašanje: “Prosim vas, povejte mi, kaj je Bogu zagrešila moja hči, da je morala umreti?”
Pri hčerkini pogrebni maši je bila zadnjikrat v cerkvi. V ogenj je zmetala vse molitvenike, rožne vence, nabožne podobe in celo razpelo.
Ob dejstvu velikega trpljenja, ki ga doživlja sam ali opaža na vsakem koraku, marsikdo izgubi vero v Boga. Zakaj toliko bolečin, solza in obupa? Toliko nedolžnih trpi. Toliko otrok, ki niso ničesar krivi. Zakaj je veliko naravnih katastrof, v katerih ljudje izgubljajo življenje, ali so drugače prizadeti?
Marsikateremu človeku pride na misel: ” Če bi bil Bog, bi tega ne dopustil. Ali pa ni dober, ni pravičen, ne more pomagati. Ker je na svetu zlo in trpljenje, ni mogoče verovati v (vsemogočnega in dobrega) Boga.”
Do kakšne rešitve pripelje takšno sklepanje? Do nikakršne! Bog je človeka obdaril s svobodno voljo, ki je odlična človekova odlika. Brez nje človek ne bi bil človek. Kdor je v svojem odločanju svoboden, ima možnost, da se odloči za dobro ali za zlo, za ljubezen ali za sovraštvo. Če naj bi Bog preprečil vse zlo na svetu, a hkrati pustil človeku svobodno voljo, bi moral pokončati vse ljudi, saj je v vsakem človeku nekaj zlobe.
Zlo in mnogo trpljenja si ljudje povzročajo sami, ker se ne ravnajo po Božjih zapovedih
in zlasti ne po zapovedi ljubezni do bližnjega. Vsaka napaka, ki se je ognemo, vsaka grešna strast, ki v sebi obvladamo, vsaka nemarnost, ki jo odstranimo, zmanjšuje zlo in trpljenje v svetu. Zato ni prav, da krivdo za zlo in trpljenje naprtimo Bogu.
Srečujemo se tudi s trpljenjem, ki ni sad človekove zlobne volje, na primer trpljenje, ki ga povzročijo bolezen, naravne katastrofe in smrt. Veren človek ve, da svet ni popoln. Dokler ne bo po drugem Kristusovem prihodu poveličan, bodo na njem zelo vidne posledice grehov človeštva,
od greha prvih staršev pa do konca sveta.
Na prvih straneh Svetega pisma je povedano, da je bil zaradi greha človek izgnan iz raja, v katerem ni bilo trpljenja. Od tedaj naprej je na svetu trpljenje. Zaman je vse človekovo prizadevanje, da bi zemlja na podlagi človekovega materialnega napredka postala raj. Zemlja bo postala raj, v katerem ne bo trpljenja, šele po drugem Kristusovem prihodu. Takrat bosta nastopila NOVO NEBO IN NOVA ZEMLJA.
Naša sedanja zemlja bo poveličana. Do takrat pa “objokani otroci Eve v dolini solz zdihujemo”, pa naj to priznamo ali ne.
Zanikanje Boga trpljenja ne odpravi! Trpljenje postane za človeka samo še večja uganka. Če zanikamo Boga, s tem niti enemu človeku v trpljenju ne pomagamo.
Zla in trpljenja ni ustvaril Bog, saj je bilo vse, kar je ustvaril, “dobro”, celo “prav dobro”, kakor nam na prvih straneh pove Sveto pismo.
Že prva dva človeka sta po zapeljevanju hudobnega duha zlorabila dar svobodne volje in sta se uprla Bogu. Od takrat naprej človeška zgodovina ni zaznamovana samo z dobrim, ampak tudi z zlim.
Na svetu ni samo zlo in trpljenje. Končno v njem zmaguje dobro in sreča.
Treba pa je gledati z vidika večnosti, s strani življenja v Bogu. Ko bomo na cilju, bo za vedno uničeno vsako zlo in trpljenje. Če gledamo v tej luči, zlo in trpljenje izgubita veliko svoje ostrine. Samo z vero v Boga lahko problem trpljenja zadovoljivo rešimo, čeprav ne moremo rešiti vseh ugank. Je pa jasno, da brez Boga življenje na svetu ne bi imelo pravega končnega smisla. Problem zla in trpljenja je brez Boga sploh nerešljiv.
Alojz Rebula se je problema trpljenja lotil s prave strani, ko je zapisal: “Čemu trpljenje? Lahko vreči ta ugovor v obraz nebesom, manj lahko pa Človeku, ki visi na križu!
Jezus je šel preko velikega petka do velike noči. Kristjan ve, da tudi zanj ni druge poti.”
Dejavno sodelovanje pri mašni daritvi, pri kateri se vključujemo v Kristusovo trpljenje in poveličanje, nam daje moč, da trpljenje osmislimo in laže prenašamo. V tolažbo so nam besede sv.Pavla: “Mi pa oznanjamo križanega Mesija, ki je Judom v spotiko, poganom norost. Tistim pa, ki so poklicani, Judom in Grkom, je Mesija, Božja moč in Božja modrost”.

20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.

23 but we preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks,

Hvaležnost za usmiljenje
12 Hvaležen sem našemu Gospodu Kristusu Jezusu, ki mi je dal moč: s tem da me je postavil v službo, me je namreč imel za vrednega zaupanja, 13 čeprav sem bil prej bogokletnik, preganjalec in nasilnež. Vendar se me je usmilil, ker sem delal v neveri, iz nevednosti – 14 in milost našega Gospoda je bila izredno bogata, z njo pa v Kristusu Jezusu vera in ljubezen.
