24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.
26 For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to everyone according to his deeds.
28 Most assuredly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

24 Tedaj je Jezus rekel svojim učencem: »Če hoče kdo iti za menoj, naj se odpove sebi in vzame svoj križ ter hodi za menoj. 25 Kdor namreč hoče rešiti svoje življenje, ga bo izgubil; kdor pa izgubi svoje življenje zaradi mene,
ga bo našel. 26 Kajti kaj koristi človeku, če si ves svet pridobi, svoje življenje pa zapravi? Ali kaj bo dal človek v zameno za svoje življenje? 27 Sin človekov bo namreč prišel v veličastvu svojega Očeta s svojimi angeli in takrat bo vsakemu povrnil po njegovem delu. 28 Resnično, povem vam: Nekateri od tukaj stoječih res ne bodo okusili smrti, dokler ne bodo videli Sina človekovega prihajati v njegovem kraljestvu.«

32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?
33 Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?
34 Or has God tried to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
35 To you it was shown, that you might know that Yahweh he is God; there is none else besides him.
36 Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you: and on earth he made you to see his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.
37 Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;
38 to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.
39 Know therefore this day, and lay it to your heart, that Yahweh he is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is none else.
40 You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh your God gives you, forever.

Bog je Izraela izbral izmed vseh ljudstev
32 Vprašaj vendar o prejšnjih dneh, ki so bili pred teboj, od dne, ko je Bog ustvaril človeka na zemlji, in od enega do drugega konca neba, ali se je kdaj zgodilo kaj tako velikega, ali se je kdaj slišalo kaj takega! 33 Je mar katero ljudstvo slišalo glas Boga, govorečega iz srede ognja, kakor si slišal ti, in ostalo živo? 34 Ali pa je kateri bog skušal priti in si vzeti narod iz srede kakega drugega naroda s preizkušnjami, znamenji, čudeži, z bojem, z močno roko, z iztegnjenim laktom in z velikimi strahotami, kakor je vse to za vas storil GOSPOD, vaš Bog, pred vašimi očmi v Egiptu? 35 Tebi je bilo dano to videti, da bi vedel, da je GOSPOD Bog in ni drugega razen njega. 36 Iz nebes ti je dal slišati svoj glas, da bi te poučil, in na zemlji ti je dal videti svoj veliki ogenj in slišal si njegove besede iz ognja. 37 Zato ker je ljubil tvoje očete, si je za njimi izbral njihov zarod in te je s svojo veliko močjo izpeljal pred seboj iz Egipta, 38 da prežene pred teboj večje in močnejše narode, kakor si ti, da te pripelje in ti da njihovo deželo v dedno last, kakor je danes. 39 Spoznaj torej danes in si vtisni v srce: GOSPOD je Bog zgoraj v nebesih in spodaj na zemlji, drugega ni! 40 Izpolnjuj njegove zakone in zapovedi, ki ti jih danes zapovedujem, da bo dobro tebi in za teboj tvojim sinovom in da si podaljšaš dneve na zemlji, ki ti jo daje GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, za vse dni!
