21 Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely demonized!” 23 But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.” 24 But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26 But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

21 Jezus je odšel od tam in se umaknil v tirsko in sidónsko pokrajino. 22 In glej, prišla je kánaanska žena iz tistih krajev in vpila: »Gospod, Davidov sin, usmili se me! Mojo hčer zelo mučijo demoni.« 23 Vendar ji ni odgovoril niti besede. Tedaj so pristopili njegovi učenci in ga prosili: »Odpravi jo, ker vpije za nami.« 24 Odgovoril je in dejal: »Poslan sem le k izgubljenim ovcam Izraelove hiše.« 25 Prišla je, padla predenj in rekla: »Gospod, pomagaj mi!« 26 Odgovoril ji je in dejal: »Ni lepo jemati kruh otrokom in ga metati psom.« 27 Ona pa je rekla: »Tako je, Gospod, pa vendar tudi psi jedo od drobtinic, ki padajo z mize njihovih gospodarjev.« 28 Tedaj je Jezus odgovoril. Rekel ji je: »O žena, velika je tvoja vera! Zgodi naj se ti, kakor želiš!« In njena hči je ozdravela tisto uro.

13 1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Send you men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, everyone a prince among them. 25 They returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days. 26 They went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and shown them the fruit of the land. 27 They told him, and said, We came to the land where you sent us; and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28 However the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. 29 Amalek dwells in the land of the South: and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the hill-country; and the Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan. 30 Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men who went up with him said, We aren’t able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. 32 They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants of it; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature. 33 There we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

1 GOSPOD je govoril Mojzesu in rekel: 2 »Pošlji nekaj mož, da ogledajo kánaansko deželo, ki jo bom dal Izraelovim sinovom! Iz vsakega očetnega rodu pošljite po enega moža; vsak izmed njih naj bo knez.«

25 Po štiridesetih dneh so se vrnili z ogledovanja dežele. 26 Šli so in prišli k Mojzesu in Aronu in k vsej skupnosti Izraelovih sinov v Paránsko puščavo, v Kadeš. Njima in vsej skupnosti so poročali in jim pokazali sadove dežele. 27 Tako so mu pripovedovali: »Prišli smo v deželo, v katero si nas poslal. Zares se v njej cedita mleko in med in tole je njeno sadje, 28 toda ljudje, ki živijo v deželi, so močni in mesta utrjena in zelo velika; tudi Anákove sinove smo videli tam. 29 Amálek prebiva v deželi Negeb; Hetejci, Jebusejci in Amoréjci prebivajo na pogorju, Kánaanci pa so ob morju in ob Jordanu.«
30 Kaléb pa je vpričo Mojzesa miril ljudstvo in rekel: »Le pojdimo in se je polastimo; prav gotovo jo lahko premagamo!« 31 Toda možje, ki so hodili z njim, so rekli: »Nikakor ne moremo iti nad to ljudstvo, ker je močnejše od nas.« 32 Očrnili so deželo, ki so jo ogledali, pred Izraelovimi sinovi in rekli: »Dežela, ki smo jo prehodili, da bi jo ogledali, je dežela, ki žre svoje prebivalce. In vsi ljudje, ki smo jih videli v njej, so visoke postave. 33 Tam smo videli tudi velikane, Anákove sinove iz rodu velikanov; v lastnih očeh smo bili kakor kobilice in taki smo morali biti tudi v njihovih očeh.«

14 1 All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. 26 Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. 28 Tell them, As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: 29 your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me, 34 After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall you bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you shall know my alienation. 35 I, Yahweh, have spoken, surely this will I do to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

1 Tedaj je vsa skupnost zagnala vik in krik in ljudstvo je tisto noč jokalo.

26 GOSPOD je govoril Mojzesu in Aronu in rekel: 27 »Kako dolgo bo ta hudobna skupnost še godrnjala čezme? Slišal sem godrnjanje Izraelovih sinov, s katerim so godrnjali čezme. 28 Reci jim: ›Kakor jaz živim, govori GOSPOD, kakor ste govorili v moja ušesa, tako vam bom storil. 29 V tej puščavi bodo popadala vaša trupla, vsi, kar vas je bilo preštetih po vsem številu, dvajset let stari in starejši, ki ste godrnjali proti meni.

34 Kakor je bilo število dni, v katerih ste ogledovali deželo, štirideset, tako se boste štirideset let pokorili za svoje krivde, za vsak dan eno leto – da boste spoznali, kaj pomeni meni nasprotovati. 35 Jaz, GOSPOD, sem govoril. Resnično, vse to bom storil vsej tej hudobni skupnosti, ki se je povezala proti meni; v tej puščavi bodo shirali in tu pomrli.‹«

They didn’t wait for his counsel, 14 But gave in to craving in the desert, And tested God in the wasteland. 21 They forgot God, their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, 22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, And awesome things by the Red Sea. 23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, Had Moses, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach, To turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn’t destroy them.

21 Pozabili so Boga, svojega rešitelja,

strašne reči ob Trstičnem morju.
23 Skoraj bi rekel, da jih iztrebi,
če ne bi bil Mojzes, njegov služabnik,
stal pred njim na prelomu,
da je zadržal njegovo srditost pred uničevanjem.
