He will declare to you things that are coming. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you. 15 All things whatever the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes TR reads “will take” instead of “takes” of mine, and will declare it to you.

15 But those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens. Receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy that they should come to him very quickly, they departed. 22 Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus, and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things. 23 For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ What therefore you worship in ignorance, this I announce to you. 24 The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, 25 neither is he served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. 26 He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live, and move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ 29 Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man. 30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, 31 because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.” 32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, “We want to hear you again concerning this.” 33 Thus Paul went out from among them. 34 But certain men joined with him, and believed, among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

15 Spremljevalci so Pavla pripeljali do Aten; nato so se vrnili z naročilom, naj Sila in Timótej čim prej prideta za njim.

22 Tedaj je Pavel stopil na sredo Areopaga in spregovoril: »Možje Atenci! Po vsem, kar vidim, ste zelo pobožni. 23 Sprehajal sem se po vašem mestu in si ogledoval vaše svetínje. Ob tem sem opazil tudi oltar z napisom ›Nepoznanemu bogu‹. Kar vi častite, ne da bi poznali, vam jaz oznanjam. 24 Bog, ki je ustvaril vesolje in vse, kar je v njem, on, ki je neba in zemlje gospodar, ne domuje v svetiščih, ki jih je zgradila človeška roka. 25 Njemu sploh ni potrebno, da bi mu stregle človeške roke, temveč sam vsem daje življenje in dihanje in vse. 26 Iz enega je ustvaril ves človeški rod, da bi napolnil vse obličje zemlje in ljudem odmeril čase in meje bivanja, 27 da bi Boga iskali in se morda do njega dotipali in ga našli, saj ni daleč od nikogar izmed nas. 28 Zakaj v njem živimo, se gibljemo in smo. Ali kakor so povedali nekateri od vaših pesnikov:
›… saj smo po rodu iz njega.‹
29 Ker smo torej Božjega rodu, ne smemo misliti, da je božanstvo nekaj, kar je podobno zlatu ali srebru ali kamnu, ki sta ga izoblikovali človeška umetnost in domiselnost. 30 Bog je zatisnil oči nad časi, ko so ljudje tavali v nevednosti; zdaj pa naroča, naj se vsepovsod vsi spreobrnejo. 31 Zakaj določil je dan, ko bo vesoljnemu svetu pravično sodil po možu, ki ga je za to izbral in pred vsemi potrdil tako, da ga je obudil od mrtvih.«
32 Ko so slišali o vstajenju od mrtvih, so se eni norčevali, drugi pa so rekli: »O tem bi te poslušali kdaj drugič.« 33 Tako je Pavel odšel iz njihove srede. 34 Nekateri možje pa so se mu pridružili in sprejeli vero. Med temi je bil Dionizij Areopagít, potem žena po imenu Dámaris in še nekaj drugih.

1 Aleluja!
Hvalite GOSPODA z nebes,
hvalite ga na višavah!
2 Hvalite ga, vsi njegovi angeli,
hvalite ga, vse njegove vojske!

11 kralji zemlje in vsa ljudstva,
knezi in vsi vladarji na zemlji;
12 mladeniči in mladenke,
starčki in dečki!


13 Naj hvalijo ime GOSPODOVO,
zakaj le njegovo ime je vzvišeno,
njegovo veličastvo je nad zemljo in nebom.
14 Vzdignil je rog svojemu ljudstvu,
hvalnico za vse njegove zveste,
za Izraelove sinove, za ljudstvo, ki mu je blizu.
