28 One of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?” ²⁹ Jesus answered, “The greatest is, ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one: ³⁰ you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. ³¹ The second is like this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” ³² The scribe said to him, “Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he, ³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” ³⁴ When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” No one dared ask him any question after that.

Večja od teh dveh ni nobena druga zapoved.« 32 Pismouk mu je rekel: »Dobro, učitelj. Resnico si povedal: On je edini in ni drugega razen njega, 33 in ljubiti njega iz vsega srca, z vsem umevanjem in z vso močjo ter ljubiti bližnjega kakor samega sebe je več kakor vse žgalne daritve in žrtve.« 34 Ko je Jezus videl, da je pametno odgovoril, mu je rekel: »Nisi daleč od Božjega kraljestva.« In nihče si ga ni drznil še kaj vprašati.

2 Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Tell him, “Forgive all our sins, And accept that which is good: So we offer like bulls our lips. ³ Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’ For in you the fatherless finds mercy.” ⁴ “I will heal their waywardness. I will love them freely; For my anger is turned away from him. ⁵ I will be like the dew to Israel. He will blossom like the lily, And send down his roots like Lebanon. ⁶ His branches will spread, And his beauty will be like the olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon. ⁷ Men will dwell in his shade. They will revive like the grain, And blossom like the vine. Their fragrance will be like the wine of Lebanon. ⁸ Ephraim, what have I to do any more with idols? I answer, and will take care of him. I am like a green fir tree; From me your fruit is found.” ⁹ Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, And the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.
