29 When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah, the prophet.
30 For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation.
31 The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.
32 The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.

29 Ko so se zbirale množice, je začel govoriti: »Ta rod je pokvarjen rod. Išče znamenje, pa mu ne bo dano znamenje razen Jonovega znamenja. 30 Kakor je bil Jona znamenje Ninivljanom, tako bo tudi Sin človekov temu rodu. 
31 Kraljica Juga bo ob sodbi vstala z možmi tega rodu in jih obsodila, kajti prišla je s konca zemlje, da bi slišala Salomonovo modrost; in glejte, več kakor Salomon je tukaj. 32 Ninivljani bodo ob sodbi vstali s tem rodom in ga obsodili, kajti spreobrnili so se ob Jonovem oznanilu; in glejte, več kakor Jona je tukaj.«

1 The word of Yahweh came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”
3 So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.
4 Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”
5 The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;
8 but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.
9 Who knows whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”
10 God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God repented of the evil which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

Jona gre v Ninive
1 GOSPODOVA beseda se je drugič zgodila Jonu, rekoč: 2 »Vstani, pojdi v Ninive, veliko mesto, in mu okliči oklic, ki ti ga govorim!« 3 Jona je vstal in šel v Ninive po GOSPODOVI besedi. Ninive pa so bile veliko mesto pred GOSPODOM, tri dni hoda. 4 Jona je začel hoditi po mestu, en dan hoda; klical je in pravil: »Še štirideset dni in Ninive bodo razdejane!« 5 Ninivljani so verovali Bogu, oklicali so post in se oblekli v raševino, od največjega do najmanjšega.
6 Ko je beseda o tem prispela do kralja v Ninivah, je vstal s svojega prestola, odložil svoj plašč, se ogrnil z raševnikom in sédel na pepel. 7 Dal je razglasiti po Ninivah in rekel, na ukaz kralja in njegovih velikašev je rekel: »Ljudje in živina, govedo in drobnica naj ničesar ne okusijo, naj se ne pasejo in naj ne pijejo vode! 8 Ljudje in živina naj se ogrnejo z raševino in naj z vso močjo kličejo k Bogu, vsakdo naj se obrne od svoje slabe poti in od nasilja, ki je v njegovih rokah! 9 Kdo ve, morda se Bog obrne in kesa, se obrne od svoje srdite jeze, da ne poginemo.«
10 Bog je videl njihova dela, kako so se obrnili od svoje slabe poti; in Bog se je kesal hudega, o katerem je govoril, da jim ga bo naredil, in ga ni naredil.

My sin is constantly before me.
4 Against you, and you only, have I sinned,
And done that which is evil in your sight;
That you may be proved right when you speak,
And justified when you judge.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation.
Uphold me with a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways.
Sinners shall be converted to you.
18 Do well in your good pleasure to Zion.
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of righteousness,
In burnt offerings and in whole burnt offerings.
Then they will offer bulls on your altar.

3 Izkaži mi milost, o Bog, po svoji dobroti,
po obilnosti svojega usmiljenja izbriši moje pregrehe!
4 Popolnoma me operi moje krivde,
mojega greha me očisti!

12 Čisto srce, o Bog, mi ustvari,
stanovitnega duha obnovi v moji notranjosti.
13 Ne poženi me izpred svojega obličja,
svojega Svetega Duha ne vzemi od mene.

18 Zakaj nad klavno daritvijo nimaš veselja,
če bi ti namenil žgalno daritev, bi je ne maral.
19 Moja daritev Bogu je potrt duh,
potrtega in pobitega srca, o Bog, ne preziraš.
