57 Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she brought forth a son. 58 Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 It happened on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of the father. 60 His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called John.” 61 They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.” 62 They made signs to his father, what he would have him called. 63 He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.” They all marveled. 64 His mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God. 65 Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea. 66 All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of the Lord was with him.

57 Elizabeti se je dopolnil čas poroda. Rodila je sina. 58 Ko so njeni sosedje in sorodniki slišali, da ji je Gospod izkazal veliko usmiljenje, so se z njo veselili. 59 Osmi dan so prišli dete obrezat. Po očetu so mu hoteli dati ime Zaharija, 60 toda njegova mati je spregovorila in rekla: »Nikakor, temveč Janez mu bo ime.« 61 Oni pa so ji rekli: »Nikogar ni v tvojem sorodstvu, ki bi mu bilo takó ime.« 62 Z znamenji so spraševali njegovega očeta, kako bi ga hotel imenovati. 63 Zahteval je deščico in zapisal: »Janez je njegovo ime.« In vsi so se začudili. 64 Njemu pa so se takoj razvezala usta in jezik, in je spet govoril ter slavil Boga. 65 Vse njihove sosede je obšel strah in po vsem judejskem gričevju se je govorilo o vseh teh rečeh. 66 In vsi, ki so zanje slišali, so si jih vtisnili v svoje srce in govorili: »Kaj neki bo ta otrok? Gospodova roka je bila namreč z njim.«

3 1 “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!” says Yahweh of Armies. 2 “But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderer’s soap; 3 and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness. 4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years.

1 »Glejte, pošiljam svojega angela, da pripravi pot pred menoj. In takoj bo stopil v svoje svetišče Gospod, ki ga iščete, angel zaveze, ki po njem hrepenite, glejte, prihaja, govori GOSPOD nad vojskami. 2 Toda kdo bo mogel prenesti dan njegovega prihoda, kdo bo obstal, ko se prikaže?
Kajti on je kakor topilčev ogenj, kakor lug pralcev. 3 Sédel bo kakor topilec in čistilec srebra in očistil bo Levijeve sinove. Kakor srebro in zlato jih bo prečistil in darovali bodo GOSPODU daritev v pravičnosti. 4 Tedaj bo Judova in jeruzalemska daritev GOSPODU ugajala, kakor v pradavnih dneh, kakor v nekdanjih letih.

23 Glejte, pošljem vam Elija, preroka, preden pride GOSPODOV dan, veliki in strašni. 24 Obrnil bo srce očetov k sinovom in srce sinov k očetom, da ne pridem in ne udarim dežele s prekletstvom.«

He will show them his covenant.

4 Svoje poti, GOSPOD, mi daj spoznati,
svojih steza me uči.
5 Vodi me v svoji resnici in me uči,
saj si ti Bog moje rešitve;
vate upam ves dan.


8 Dober in iskren je GOSPOD,
zato poučuje grešnike na poti.
9 Ponižne vodi v pravici,
ponižne uči svojo pot.
10 Vse GOSPODOVE steze so dobrota in zvestoba
za tiste, ki ohranjajo njegovo zavezo in njegova pričevanja.

14 GOSPODOV dogovor je za tiste, ki se ga bojijo,
njegova zaveza, da jim jo da spoznati.
