6 There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.
8 He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.
19 This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 He confessed, and didn’t deny, but he confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
22 They said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24 The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
25 They asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.
27 He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”
28 These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Priznal je: »Jaz nisem Mesija.« 21 »Kaj torej? Si mar Elija?« so ga vprašali. »Ne, tudi to nisem,« jim je rekel. »Ali si prerok?« »Ne,« je odgovoril. 22 Rekli so torej: »Kdo si, da bomo mogli odgovoriti tistim, ki so nas poslali. Kaj praviš sam o sebi?« 23 Dejal je:
»Jaz sem glas vpijočega v puščavi:
zravnajte Gospodovo pot,
kakor je rekel prerok Izaija.« 24 Odposlanci so bili iz vrst farizejev. 25 Vprašali so ga in mu rekli: »Kaj torej krščuješ, če nisi ne Mesija ne Elija ne prerok?« 26 Janez jim je odgovoril: »Jaz krščujem v vodi, med vami pa stoji on, ki ga ne poznate, 27 tisti, ki pride za menoj, in jaz nisem vreden, da bi mu odvezal jermen na sandali.« 28 To se je zgodilo v Betaniji, onkraj Jordana, kjer je Janez krščeval.

1 The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is on me; because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble; he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;
10 I will greatly rejoice in Yahweh, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its bud, and as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord Yahweh will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Prerokovo poslanstvo
61 1 Duh Gospoda BOGA je nad menoj,
ker me je GOSPOD mazilil.
Poslal me je, da oznanim blagovest ubogim,
da povežem strte v srcu,
da okličem jetnikom prostost,
zapornikom osvoboditev,
2 da oznanim leto GOSPODOVE milosti
dan maščevanja našega Boga,
da potolažim vse, ki žalujejo,

10 Silno se veselim v GOSPODU,
moja duša se raduje v mojem Bogu.
Zakaj odel me je z oblačilom odrešenja,
ovil me je z ogrinjalom pravičnosti,

kakor nevesto, ki se okrasi z nakitom.
11 Saj kakor zemlja poraja svojo rast
in kakor vrt poganja svoje seme,

17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
19 Don’t quench the Spirit.
20 Don’t despise prophesies.
21 Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.
22 Abstain from every form of evil.
23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he who calls you, who will also do it.

16 Zmeraj se veselite. 17 Neprenehoma molíte. 18 V vsem se zahvaljujte: kajti to je Božja volja v Kristusu Jezusu glede vas. 19 Duha ne ugašajte. 20 Preroštev ne zaničujte. 21 Vse preizkušajte in kar je dobro, obdržite. 22 Zla, pa naj bo kakršno koli, se vzdržite.
23 Sam Bog miru naj vas posveti, da boste popolni. In vse, kar je vašega, duh, duša in telo, naj bo ohranjeno neoporečno, dokler ne pride naš Gospod Jezus Kristus. 24 On, ki vas kliče, je zvest in bo to izpolnil.
