1
1 The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in the prophets,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
Who will prepare your way before you.
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
‘Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!’”

Oznanjevanje Janeza Krstnika
1 Začetek evangelija Jezusa Kristusa, Božjega Sina;
2 kakor je zapisano pri preroku Izaiju:
Glej, pošiljam svojega glasnika pred tvojim obličjem,
ki bo pripravil tvojo pot.
3 Glas vpijočega v puščavi:
Pripravite Gospodovo pot,
zravnajte njegove steze!
4 Tako se je pojavil Janez Krstnik v puščavi in je oznanjal krst spreobrnjenja v odpuščanje grehov. 5 K njemu je prihajala vsa judejska dežela in vsi Jeruzalemčani. Dajali so se mu krstiti v reki Jordan in priznavali svoje grehe. 6 Janez je bil oblečen v kameljo dlako in imel usnjen pas okoli ledij. Jedel je kobilice in divji med. 7 Oznanjal je: »Za menoj pride močnejši od mene in jaz nisem vreden, da bi se sklonil pred njim in mu odvezal jermen njegovih sandal. 8 Jaz sem vas krstil v vodi, on pa vas bo krstil v Svetem Duhu.«

1 Comfort you, comfort you my people, says your God.
2 Speak comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry to her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of Yahweh’s hand double for all her sins.
3 The voice of one who cries, Prepare you in the wilderness the way of Yahweh; make level in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain:
5 and the glory of Yahweh shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.
9 You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain; you who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, don’t be afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Behold, your God!
10 Behold, the Lord Yahweh will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.
11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and will gently lead those who have their young.

DRUGI DEL
Bog bo rešil svoje ljudstvo
1 Tolažite, tolažite moje ljudstvo,
govori vaš Bog.
2 Govorite hčeri jeruzalemski na srce
in ji kličite,
da je njena tlaka dokončana,
da je njena krivda poravnana,
ker je prejela iz GOSPODOVE roke
dvojno kazen za vse svoje grehe.
3 Glas kliče:
V puščavi pripravite pot GOSPODU,
zravnajte v pustinji cesto našemu Bogu!
4 Vsaka dolina naj se vzdigne
in vsak hrib in grič naj se poniža,
kar je vijugasto, naj bo ravno,
in grebeni naj bodo ravnina.
5 Razodelo se bo GOSPODOVO veličastvo
in videlo ga bo hkrati vse meso,
kajti GOSPODOVA usta so govorila.

9 Povzpni se na visoko goro,
znanilka veselja, Sion,
močno povzdigni svoj glas,
znanilka veselja, Jeruzalem,
povzdigni ga, ne boj se!
Povej Judovim mestom:
»Glejte, vaš Bog!
10 Glejte, Gospod BOG prihaja z močjo,
njegov laket vlada zanj.
Glejte, njegovo plačilo je z njim,
njegovo povračilo pred njim.
11 Kakor pastir pase svojo čredo,
jo zbira s svojim laktom,
jagnjeta nosi v svojem naročju,
počasi vodi doječe.«

9 Poslušam, kaj govori GOSPOD Bog:
Zares, govori o miru
svojemu ljudstvu in svojim zvestim
in naj se ne obračajo k norosti.
10 Zares, blizu je njegova rešitev tistim, ki se ga bojijo,
da bo slava prebivala v naši deželi.
11 Dobrota in zvestoba se bosta srečali,
pravičnost in mir se bosta poljubila.
12 Iz zemlje bo pognala zvestoba,
z nebes bo gledala pravičnost.
13 GOSPOD bo tudi dal, kar je dobro,
naša dežela bo dajala pridelek.
14 Pred njim bo šla pravičnost

8 But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
11 Therefore since all these things are thus to be destroyed, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
12 looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in his sight.

8 Tega, ljubi, ne smete prezreti: pred Gospodom je en dan kakor tisoč let in tisoč let kakor en dan. 9 Gospod ni počasen glede obljube, kakor nekateri mislijo, da je to počasnost. Ne, le potrpežljiv je z vami, ker noče, da bi se kdo pogubil, temveč da bi vsi dosegli spreobrnjenje. 10 Prišel pa bo Gospodov dan kakor tat. Tedaj bo nebo s hrumom prešlo, prvine se bodo v ognju razkrojile, zemlja in dela na njej pa bodo razkrita. 11 Kako prav je torej, da živite sveto in res pobožno, če se bo vse to razkrojilo, da 12 čakate in pospešujete prihod Božjega dne, zaradi katerega bo nebo zaplamenelo in prešlo in se bodo prvine razžarjene topile. 13 Mi pa po njegovi obljubi pričakujemo nova nebesa in novo zemljo, v katerih biva pravičnost.
14 Ljubi, ker to pričakujete, se potrudite, da vas najde v miru brez madeža in brez graje.
