25 Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,
26 “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.
27 Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.
28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
29 Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,
30 saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.
33 So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

25 Z njim so potovale velike množice. Obrnil se je in jim rekel: 26 »Če kdo pride k meni in ne sovraži svojega očeta, matere, žene, otrok, bratov, sester in celo svojega življenja, ne more biti moj učenec. 27 Kdor ne nosi svojega križa in ne hodi za menoj, ne more biti moj učenec. 28 Kdo izmed vas, ki hoče zidati stolp, prej ne séde in ne preračuna stroškov, ali ima dovolj, da ga dokonča? 29 Sicer se lahko zgodi, da postavi temelj, zidave pa ne more dokončati; in vsi, ki bi to videli, bi se mu začeli posmehovati 30 in bi govorili: ›Ta človek je začel zidati, pa ni mogel dokončati.‹ 31 Ali: kateri kralj, ki gre na vojsko proti drugemu kralju, ne bo prej sédel in se posvetoval, ali se more z deset tisoč možmi postaviti po robu njemu, ki prihaja nadenj z dvajset tisoči? 32 Če se ne more, pošlje poslanstvo, ko je oni še daleč, in sprašuje, kakšni so pogoji za mir. 33 Takó torej nobeden izmed vas, ki se ne odpove vsemu, kar ima, ne more biti moj učenec.«

12 So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputes,
15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world,
16 holding up the word of life; that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ, that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain.
17 Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice, and rejoice with you all.
18 In the same way, you also rejoice, and rejoice with me.

Apostolova skrb za svetost kristjanov
12 Potemtakem, moji ljubi, kakor ste bili zmeraj poslušni, in to ne le takrat, kadar sem bil med vami, ampak še veliko bolj zdaj, ko sem odsoten, delajte s strahom in s trepetom za svoje odrešenje. 13 Bog je namreč tisti, ki po svojem blagohotnem načrtu udejanja v vas hotenje in delovanje. 14 Vse delajte brez godrnjanja in preračunljivosti, 15 da boste neoporečni in nepokvarjeni, brezgrajni Božji otroci sredi sprijenega in pokvarjenega rodu, med katerim žarite na svetu kakor zvezde. 16 Držite se besede življenja, da se bom lahko na Kristusov dan pohvalil, da nisem v prazno tekel in se nisem v prazno trudil. 17 Četudi se izlivam kot pitna daritev pri žrtvi in daritvi vaše vere, se veselim in radujem z vami vsemi. 18 Prav tako se veselite tudi vi in se radujte z menoj!

1 Yahweh is my light and my salvation.
Whom shall I fear?
Yahweh is the strength of my life.
Of whom shall I be afraid?
4 One thing I have asked of Yahweh, that I will seek after,
That I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life,
To see Yahweh’s beauty,
And to inquire in his temple.
13 I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living.
14 Wait for Yahweh.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage.
Yes, wait for Yahweh.

Bog je luč in rešitev
1 Davidov psalm.
GOSPOD je moja luč in moja rešitev,
koga bi se moral bati?
GOSPOD je trdnjava mojega življenja,
pred kom bi moral trepetati?

4 Za eno prosim GOSPODA,
to skušam doseči:
da bi prebival v GOSPODOVI hiši
vse dni svojega življenja,
da bi zrl GOSPODOVO milino,
premišljal v njegovem templju.

13 Verujem, da bom videl dobroto GOSPODOVO
v deželi živih.
14 Upaj v GOSPODA,
bodi močan, tvoje srce naj se opogumi,
upaj v GOSPODA.
