18 It happened, as he was praying alone, that the disciples were with him, and he asked them, “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
19 They answered, “‘John the Baptizer,’ but others say, ‘Elijah,’ and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
21 But he warned them, and commanded them to tell this to no one,
22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”

Ko je nekoč na samem molil, so bili z njim učenci in vprašal jih je: »Kaj pravijo množice, kdo sem?« Odgovorili so: »Janez Krstnik, drugi: Elija, spet drugi pa, da je vstal eden od starodavnih prerokov.« Nato jim je rekel: »Kaj pa vi pravite, kdo sem?« Peter je odgovoril: »Božji Maziljenec.«
Jezus prvič napove svojo smrt in vstajenje
Strogo jim je prepovedal, da bi to komu pripovedovali. Rekel je: »Sin človekov mora veliko pretrpeti. Starešine ljudstva, véliki duhovniki in pismouki ga bodo zavrgli in umorili, in tretji dan bo obujen.«
